Earth Got Really Two Months?

Arizona: Earth turned out to have more than one satellite. If all this is the only known satellite of Earth was the Moon, researchers from Cornell University said if there is one more satellite is 2006 RH120. This satellite first appeared in 2006 in Catalina Sky Survey, Arizona, United States. At that time, the object is considered to be the asteroid is moving around the Earth.

2006 RH120 initially looks like a man-made rockets that have made titanium white paint like the U.S. space agency (NASA). But in the research, it turns the body's own 2006 RH120 has a length of only a few meters. 2006 RH120 later is still considered a natural satellite like the Moon. However, 2006 RH120 disappeared in 2007 and left the Earth's orbit.

Now, the astrophysicist from Cornell said if the 2006 RH120 is not a common anomaly. But a month while the normal-owned planets like Earth. 2006 RH120 is said to be interested in a temporary satellite of Earth and Moon's gravity.

The second object of this planet, Earth and Moon, mutual attraction to each other and join other interesting objects that are close to them in space. Often, objects gravitational pull of Earth and Moon are comets and asteroids. Comets and asteroids are 'tersenggol' by the outer planets and ends in the region around the Earth.

Three Cornell astrophysicist involved, among others, Mikael Granvik, Jeremie Vaubaillon, and Robert Jedicke, set up a simple model that shows how the gravity of Earth and Moon captured outer space objects and make the Earth get an extra month.

"At any given time, at least one natural satellite of Earth with a diameter of 1 meter which moves surrounding the Earth. These objects orbiting around 10 months, before finally lost," he says astrophysicist's team.

During this time, the planet known to have more than one satellite is Mars with two small satellites; Deimos and Phobos. Jupiter with 64 satellites, including the four largest satellites: Ganymede, Callisto, Io, and Europa. Saturn has 62 months, two of which Titan and Enceladus.

Uranus also has a lot of satellites that as many as 27 pieces, the largest being Titania, Oberon, Umbriel, Ariel, and Miranda. Finally, Neptune has 13 satellites and the largest is Triton. (NatGeo / ADO)
