Android apps maxed out to 4GB

Time to go have a very long coffee break – Android apps are set to expand for a maximum size of 50MB to a whopping 4GB, according to the official Android Development Blog.

While the original APK file will still remain 50MB, developers can now add expansion files to their app, each up to 2GB in size. What’s more, the Android Market will host all of the files and expansion, thus saving the developers the cost of hosting the files themselves.

With the substantial increase in file size, developers can now add in more detail such as 3D maps and interactive elements, as well as high-definition audio and video.
