Globally the internet is still mostly used for emails

In a recent survey conducted by research firm Ipsos on behalf of Reuters, some interesting trends were found out for global internet usage. The survey was conducted in 24 countries, including Saudi Arabia, with a total sample size of 19,216 people.

The key findings were that 85% of global respondents still use the internet to send and receive emails. Saudi Arabia is an exception to this, with only 46% using the internet for emails.

Meanwhile 62% use the internet for social networking around the world, with Japan showing exceptional resilience with only 35% using the net for social networking.

VOIP remains a distant third in the poles, with an average global usage of 14%; Russia being the largest user with 36% usage rate.
