Tom Petersen, director of technical marketing, announced over at the official company blog that Nvidia has now decided to license its SLI technology to AMD motherboards.
The technology will be issued to AMD’s upcoming 900 range of chipsets, and as of yet, Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock and MSI have been confirmed to feature the new capability.
“Long term gamers probably remember that for a long time AMD offered great high-end CPUs, but in recent years, AMDâs stature as the preferred gaming CPU fell by the wayside and Intel CPUs have been the gamersâ choice. For this reason, weâve only licensed SLI for motherboards with Intel chipsets. However, weâve been recently hearing chants of âSLI for AMD CPUsâ, and figured that now is a great time to do it. After all, we want to make sure gamers can benefit from the new CPU competitive landscape and ensure they have NVIDIA SLI â" the highest performance, most stable multi-GPU solution - to game on! According to Steam, 93% of all multi-GPU systems in use today use SLI,” Petersen said.
