Sony gets sued for C$1b by a Canadian lawsuit

Every major disaster has its looters, and Sony is experiencing something quite similar to it now. As the company begins to piece itself back from the major security breach on the Playstation Network earlier last month, the electronic giant has been hit by a lawsuit that demands nothing less than a billion dollars in damages.

And surprisingly, it comes from a 21-year old Natasha Makismovic, who thinks Sony owes PSN users some compensation.

“If you can’t trust a huge multi-national corporation like Sony to protect your private information, who can you trust?” asked Maksimovic in a statement. “It appears to me that Sony focuses more on protecting its games than its PlayStation users.”

The lawsuit was announced on Monday by a Toronto firm called McPhadden Samac Tuovi LLP. Sony Canada, Sony USA, and “other Sony entities” has been named as the defendants.

Makismovic apparently wants Sony to pay for “costs of credit monitoring services and fruad insurance coverage for two years.” The classic action wasn’t clear if the damages are demanded for Canadian PSN users only or all of the 78 million PSN users around the globe.
