The City Room blog reports that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority released renderings Tuesday of the Apple store that is scheduled to open in Grand Central Terminal soon.
Apple had been trying to block the M.T.A. from making the new store images public, but officials decided to release images as construction has now started at the station. Jeffrey Rosen, the agency’s director of real estate, would not say when the store is expected to open.
Apple faced a number of design challenges. It had to work with the New York Police Department to figure out crowd control issues. The M.T.A.’s main concern was resolving how commuters and Apple faithfuls would coexist during the release of new Apple products, when lines can sometimes stretch several city blocks long.
On Monday, The Real Deal, a New York City real estate magazine, spotted construction at the site of the Apple Store. The magazine said on its Facebook page that workers “seemed to be removing the furnishings — mostly tables and chairs — from the former Métrazur space and erecting scaffolding. The construction manager declined any further access to the site.”
You can see the renderings, architectural layouts and photos of the upcoming Apple Store in the images below.
